Dos And Don’ts

  • DO – Greet someone by shaking, not grasping, both hands.
  • DON’T – Don’t use your left hand for passing or accepting things; it is considered unclean.
  • DO – Respect religious customs, particularly during the month of Ramadan.
  • DON’T – Don’t offer Muslim Indonesians alcoholic drinks or pork.
  • DO – Wear appropriate attire, especially in Muslim areas.
  • DON’T – Don’t display anger or ridicule/blame towards another in public; the concept of “saving face” is very important.
  • DO – Shoes must be taken off before entering a house or place of worship like mosques.
